About the position

Renton Technical College (RTC) is seeking applications for Art adjunct instructors and substitutes on an ongoing basis. The Dean of General Education will review applications as needed to fill openings during the academic year. The college offers one class in this area, ART&100 Art Appreciation, which enrolls a diverse group of students. The single section may be scheduled online, weekdays, weeknights, or Saturdays, with a preference for candidates available for in-person instruction. RTC has provided quality education for over 75 years and is committed to increasing cultural diversity among its faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Create an educational environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Effectively teach the adopted curricula for art appreciation.
  • Design inclusive instructional strategies, including classroom, small group, and individualized instruction.
  • Work effectively with students from academically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds.
  • Evaluate student progress towards attaining the learning outcomes.
  • Maintain and submit student records, documentation, and program reports.
  • Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in art.
  • Ability to design in-person and online learning experiences that are interactive and respectful of cultural differences.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English.
  • Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and previous experience maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Speaker of a language in addition to English, with preference for top spoken languages in the RTC service area (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, Chinese).

Benefits

  • Compensation of $1,058 per credit for lecture credits, with additional pay for guided practice instructional credits.
  • Degree stipends for Master's or Doctorate degrees paid on a prorated per credit rate.
