About The Position

Diablo Valley College is seeking to add to its pool of adjunct faculty who can teach ceramics in the art department. We are hiring for an adjunct pool for Fall 2025 and/or Spring 2026 semesters, with possible courses in subsequent semesters. These courses are often taught stacked in tandem. Along with your application, please Include a portfolio of 5 - 10 ceramics art practice images. Requirements

  • Master's in Fine Arts, Art, or Art History OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in Humanities OR the equivalent.
  • Experience teaching an introductory ceramics course at the college level.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of wheel and hand-built ceramics techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior introductory level teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment utilized in an educational art studio space.
  • Experience in teaching courses similar to those listed in the job description.
  • Varied knowledge in their field as evidenced by a resume and portfolio which reflects dedication to an artistic practice via exhibitions and technical experience.
  • Professional experience working with and teaching a diverse student population in a multi-cultural college environment.
  • A history of maintaining good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and community contacts.
  • Proven ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules.
  • Creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking.
  • Evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work.
  • Meeting with students outside of class.
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  • Fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member.
  • Maintaining accurate academic records.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
