The Arrhythmia Nurse is a registered nurse who utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene and evaluate comprehensive care to patients with specific arrhythmias especially those requiring pacemakers and ICDs, under the supervision of the Cardiologist. The nurse functions in collaboration with the Cardiologist in providing care to the pacemaker/ICD patient. The services provided include evaluation of pacemakers and ICDs, diagnosing malfunctions, program adjustments to optimize pacemaker/ICD performance, education of patients and family, and telephone triage of patients, under the supervision of the Cardiologist. The nurse interacts with clinic physicians, referral physicians, clinical personnel, and community agencies to provide optimal care to the patient and their family with arrhythmias.
