About The Position

The Arrhythmia Nurse is a registered nurse who utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene and evaluate comprehensive care to patients with specific arrhythmias especially those requiring pacemakers and ICDs, under the supervision of the Cardiologist. The nurse functions in collaboration with the Cardiologist in providing care to the pacemaker/ICD patient. The services provided include evaluation of pacemakers and ICDs, diagnosing malfunctions, program adjustments to optimize pacemaker/ICD performance, education of patients and family, and telephone triage of patients, under the supervision of the Cardiologist. The nurse interacts with clinic physicians, referral physicians, clinical personnel, and community agencies to provide optimal care to the patient and their family with arrhythmias.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, preferably BSN.
  • Evidence of continuing education in the field of cardiology, especially in the field of arrhythmias.
  • Three to five years’ experience in cardiovascular nursing.
  • Intensive care background preferred.
  • Knowledge of ECGs and rhythm interpretation.
  • Ability to perform physical assessment and basic history taking.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate pacemakers and ICDs, diagnose malfunctions, and make program adjustments.
  • Educate patients and their families about arrhythmias and device management.
  • Perform telephone triage for patients.
  • Interact with clinic physicians, referral physicians, clinical personnel, and community agencies.
