About The Position

The Supervisor, Security is charged with directing the subordinate personnel under his authority and is further responsible for ensuring and maintaining maximum security for patients, visitors, employees and students of Rush University Medical Center. The Security Supervisor will report and document all infractions of rules, regulations and policies of Rush including all federal, state and local laws and ordinances. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Valid Driver's (Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin) license.
  • Have a prior driving record deemed acceptable to Rush based upon the results of a Motor Vehicle Report check conducted by Human Resources.
  • Possess and be responsible for maintaining current Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).
  • Be eligible to obtain a Firearm Control Card (FCC) within six months of employment.
  • Illinois Firearm's Owner's Identification Permit (FOID).
  • Must have completed necessary Firearms Training, as deemed by the state of Illinois
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety ("IAHSS") certification required within six months of employment and maintained thereafter.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment; excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be able to stand or walk during the majority, if not entire tour of duty and be able to withstand weather extremes for external assignments.
  • Physically able to perform required responsibilities.
  • Must be able to qualify for and successfully demonstrate the use and maintenance of firearms and departmental equipment.
  • Must be able to wear body armor.

  • Previous hospital security experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assume command of security personnel or other designated employees assigned under his authority.
  • Direct the work of security personnel and prepare daily work schedules.
  • Inspect posts and observe the efficiency of personnel assigned.
  • Report infraction of rules, with appropriate recommendations, the Associate Director of Security or designee.
  • Assist local police agencies during investigations or emergencies.
  • Train, discipline and evaluate all subordinate personnel.
  • Reports and documents any conditions that might constitute a security or safety hazard.
  • Prepares incident reports.
  • Obtains written or oral statements.
  • Assists local police agencies during investigations or emergencies.
  • Controls and enforces vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns in the Medical Center as assigned.
  • Provides escort services as assigned.
  • Participates in property control procedures (accepts, records, stores, returns, or releases to authorized persons).
  • Responds to emergency situations i.e. Code Red, Blue, Code Triage, Code Orange, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
