About The Position

Job Summary: An armed Security Officer is responsible for the life, safety, and security of the facilities and personnel they protect. An armed Security Officer serves as a visible deterrent to crime and client rule infractions. An armed Security Officer’s primary responsibility is to detect and report suspicious, unsafe, or criminal acts on the client’s property they are assigned to protect.

Requirements

  • Possess excellent observational skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Authoritative verbal communication skills.
  • Clearly and concisely write reports, logs, and other documentation.
  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to learn the layout of the property and buildings.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to think through and solve problems.
  • Ability to work on a team.
  • Qualify with a firearm to SLED firearms standard.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • With or without reasonable accommodation, the physical and mental requirements of the job include the following:
  • Frequent prolonged periods sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipment.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 15 pounds.
  • Rarely lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Constantly standing and/or walking for up to 12 hours.
  • Frequently opening, closing and securing doors and other access points.
  • Occasionally bending and twisting at the waist, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Frequently climbing stairs, walking up inclines, and walking on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to see and hear clearly.
  • Rarely run.
  • Constantly use hands and arms for reaching, handling a firearm, and using radio, phone, and computer.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to tolerate and withstand rain, cold, heat and humidity.
  • Ability to work both in daylight and night hours.
  • Work hours and shifts will vary according to assigned client site.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Occasional overtime.

  • Previous security, police, and/or military experience a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols and monitors an assigned area; reports suspicious activities to local authorities.
  • Performs foot patrols, monitors surveillance cameras, inspects property, and monitors crowds.
  • Contacts law enforcement or fire department in case of an emergency.
  • Checks doors, windows, gates, and other access points to ensure the property is secure.
  • Investigates reports of suspicious activity on the property.
  • Provide escort responsibilities as requested.
  • Greet, answer questions and assists guests and employees in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Answer phones and directs calls to the appropriate departments.
  • Inspects bags, vehicles, and/or deliveries as required.
  • Enforce facility parking and traffic regulations as required.
  • Controls access to client facility through an established admittance process.
  • Protects evidence or the scene of an incident in the event of accidents, emergencies, or security investigations.
  • Writes and prepares logs and reports as required.
  • Deter and/or eliminate an active shooter or other similar threat.
  • Additional duties may be assigned, and functions may be modified according to business necessity.
