School Security Officers must possess a security license from the state. Additionally, we require the following for SSOs: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). At least five calendar years of verifiable experience as a certified law enforcement officer or its military equivalency; all five years must have occurred within the last seven years. The experience must have included general arrest authority. Examples of professions that may provide this experience include law enforcement officer and military police. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Our Security Officers protect schools in the district against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry by performing the following duties: First responder to any and all events that occur on campus property. Patrol the assigned campus both inside the buildings and the perimeter. Be highly visible on campus with a focus on before and after school and at lunch. Maintain external security of the buildings. Make recommendations to correct identified security issues on campus. Observe arrival and departure of students. Ensure that no unauthorized individuals gain access to the campus. Work with the staff to intervene in situations that can cause disruptions of the learning environment. Monitors video surveillance at the school. Becomes a part of the school threat assessment team. Develops and fosters communication with the patrolling law enforcement agency that serves their school. Communicates regularly with the site administration as well as the direct supervisor. Completes other assigned duties.
