About The Position

As part of the Regional Security Services team, the Armed Protection Officer (APO) is responsible for the physical and personal security for members, staff, and visitors within the health care client facilities. This includes responding to emergency situations, preserving order, and enforcing regulations related to personnel, visitors, and premises. Protects staff and property from theft or damage, or people from hazards and interference, including the potential for violence in the workplace. The APO will partner with security and clinical leaders to establish a unified care team to identify and mitigate security and workplace violence risks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 4+ years of experience in official law enforcement and/or military capacity
  • Combined with experience as armed security officer
  • Security Guard Card
  • Exposed Firearms Permit
  • Security Basics: Ability to learn, retain and perform basic healthcare security functions
  • Risk Management: Ability to identify, educate, manage, and report security risks impacting service delivery
  • Communication: Ability to listen, share, modify information and effectively communicate amongst different stakeholder groups and in varying departments
  • Service Delivery: Ability to consistently demonstrate professional behavior that is responsive to the needs of the client
  • Leadership: Ability to motivate, inspire, and influence others
  • Be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Have a reliable and functional means of communication (i.e., cell phone)
  • The legal right to work in the United States
  • Possess a valid government-issued driver’s license or state-issued I.D.
  • An active state-issued guard card
  • Successfully pass the client’s pre-employment screening process (Drug Test, Health Screen, Criminal Background Check, Personality Inventory Assessment)
  • Ability to properly wear an N95 mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines while on-site.
  • Complete healthcare competency assessment and training on defusing assaultive behaviors

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree or above, with a focus on Criminal Justice
  • Armed Security experience in a healthcare facility

Responsibilities

  • Respond to crimes in progress and take appropriate action on the exterior of the healthcare facility
  • Make private person arrests when necessary and within policy
  • Respond into healthcare facility interior for Code Gray responses
  • Lead de-escalation efforts
  • Provide a professional security presence
  • Act as a safety ambassador for the facility
  • Provide campus safety recommendations
  • Liaison with administrative and clinical leadership
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with local law enforcement
  • Prevention of Workplace Violence (PWW): Serve as the facility subject matter expert on the Prevention of Workplace Violence. Respond to violent incidents of workplace violence. Stay current on training and trends in the PWV field
  • Threat Management: Lead and support threat management investigations . Mitigate potential threats through collaboration with key stakeholders and the Threat Management Team
  • Training: Provide Prevention of Workplace Violence training to staff. Train and evaluate new officers
  • Monitors entrances and exits.
  • Provides information regarding the facility and surrounding areas as requested by visitors
  • Prevents unapproved or unlawful entry
  • Prepare logs or reports as required for post, requiring detailed narrative reports.
  • Other duties as assigned
