A youth apprenticeship for high school students. Arlington Echo offers students the opportunity to gain experience in the field of environmental education. Students will receive 450 hours of paid on-the-job-training by assisting the Camp Directors in supervising campers and leading activities during a four to seven day summer camp experience at our Outdoor Education Center during several weeks throughout the summer. The requirement for the remaining hours will be met by supporting fourth grade environmental literacy programs in the fall, either during the school day or during the evening for overnight programs. Each of the summer camps has a different age range and program emphasis. Students will assist the Camp Directors and Counselors in providing campers a fun and safe week of camp during the summer, and support fourth grade staff in the delivery of environmental literacy programming in the fall. This is an opportunity for young adults to learn management and leadership skills through the lens of environmental literacy. Tasks may include setup and break down of activities, assisting with supervision of campers/students, and ensuring camper/student safety.
