About The Position

This part-time internship is a hybrid role located in Phoenix, AZ, and will be 15–20 hours per week. You will report to the Program Director, Arizona. The internship will run from June 1-August 15. Common Cause is seeking an intern to work with our Arizona team elating to voting and elections policy, voter education, membership organizing, and preparing for the 2026 midterm elections. In this role you will assist with advocacy campaigns, grassroots engagement, research, policy development, communications, and/or member outreach and events. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a commitment to a fair and transparent democracy, and who is interested in learning more about government affairs and the legislative process.

Requirements

  • A passion for learning about elections, organizing, and the legislative process
  • A desire and an ability to work in a non-partisan manner
  • A willingness to build your organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A willingness to build your writing and listening skills
  • A willingness to learn new skills

Responsibilities

  • Volunteer organizing and engagement, including community events, phonebanks, and letter-writing campaigns
  • Supporting mobilization efforts around legislative developments
  • Drafting communications to volunteers and supporters (emails, action alerts, and recruitment messages)
  • Tracking and summarizing committee hearings, floor debates, and key bills
  • Assisting with coalition meetings to better understand the political landscape
  • Event planning and execution with the Program Director
  • Policy analysis, script writing, and external/internal communications
