Area Team Engineer - Project Mechanical Engineer Job Summary Marathon Petroleum’s Kenai Alaska Refinery is seeking an Area Team Engineer - Project Mechanical Engineerwho will provide technical support as well as project management services. Projects may include new capital projects and modifications needed to properly maintain and optimize existing operating units. This position is in the Engineering organization and reports to Engineering Supervisor. The hours of the position 9/80 or 5/40 onsite and support TAR once every three years. On-call may occur several times a year. Key Responsibilities: The Area Team Engineer will provide support for technical packages governing changes required for new and continuing plant operations. They will work in a team environment and will become familiar with pertinent technical codes and specifications, which will be utilized in executing the daily duties of this position. The Refining Engineer must have strong written and verbal communication skills and must be able to contribute in a team environment. Provide mechanical support and troubleshooting skills for Area Teams Provide mechanical assistance to the Area Teams during process unit Turnarounds Review drawings, documents, and equipment datasheets to meet refinery needs and company specifications Participate in PHA reviews, area HAZOP reviews, incident investigations and other PSM/PSI related activities Apply project management skills in all phases of project engineering from conception to closeout Specify engineered items and equipment for refinery projects Manage multiple projects and assignments in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner Coordinate work with outside engineering contractors as needed Develop scope, supporting cost estimates and schedule creation, and obtaining management approval for projects Interact daily with project team members developing and executing project objectives Confer with management, project stakeholders, and local/corporate SME’s throughout a project life cycle Contribute to budgeting process, ensuring quality budget deliverables and included projects meet refinery goals

Requirements

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
  • Must have at least 6 months of mechanical engineering experience in oil/gas refining or petro-chemical internship program OR 6 months of post graduate mechanical engineering in refining, petro-chemical or other heavy related industry.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • More than one year experience in petroleum refining or petrochemical industries is preferred.
  • Experience demonstrating knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards is preferred.
  • Experience in AutoCAD or related software is preferred.
