About The Position

The Area HSE Manager is a Leadership role that manages and develops high-performing EHS teams within a Geographical area, ensuring alignment between corporate safety strategy and field-level execution across construction and operational environments. It requires strong cross-functional collaboration to embed safety into all phases of the project lifecycle and drive accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. The position also serves as a strategic advisor to business leadership and maintains expert knowledge of industry standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • 4-year related degree and 10 years related experience plus ASP certification or 13 years relevant experience and SMS.
  • Ability to spend 80% of working time on active construction sites.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors progress and performance of multiple teams and safety programs, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Plans and assigns work for team members.
  • Establishes and prioritize a culture that identifies, teaches, and develops future leaders and wider safety members.
  • Coach, manage, and develop EHS leaders to build organizational capability and address performance gaps.
  • Align corporate safety strategy with field execution across multiple construction and operational sites.
  • Is a recognized resource for resolving unique and complicated situations.
  • Assess training needs and develop targeted programs for teams and project sites and leadership teams.
  • Represent REI in external committees, industry events, and professional groups.
  • Ensure consistent communication and coordination between corporate EHS leadership, field teams, and frontline stakeholders.
  • Drive accountability across business and field leadership for safety performance.
  • Establishes cross-functional teams to integrate safety into all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to cross-company initiatives intersecting with safety, including resiliency, business continuity, ESG, and workforce engagement.
  • Provide proactive, strategic safety insights to senior leadership on risks, incidents, and improvement opportunities.
  • Review and approve site-specific safety plans and project contracts to ensure compliance and readiness.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors during pre-construction, plan reviews, and project startup.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of company HSE standards, programs, and goals.
  • Monitor industry trends and integrate best practices into REI safety programs.
  • Champion HSE standards across projects to foster a safe and productive work environment.
  • Support additional EHS initiatives as assigned.
  • Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while delivering high-quality stakeholder support.
  • Serve as a strategic contributor and thought leader within the Health & Safety Program team.
