About The Position

The Area Engineer position at Targa Resources involves embodying integrity, accountability, initiative, and respect in all correspondence and tasks performed. The role requires sizing and specifying mechanical equipment, including separators, filters, tanks, heat exchangers, air coolers, pumps, compressors, treaters, and dehydrators. The engineer will provide technical support to operations, including troubleshooting, debottlenecking, optimization, maintenance projects, and compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and DOT regulations. The position also involves designing gas and liquid piping, meter stations, compressor stations, and pump stations, as well as developing process simulations and material & energy balances using ProMax software. The engineer will track and forecast costs and schedules, communicate progress to stakeholders, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from a 4-year accredited university.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in natural gas gathering, compression, processing, fractionation, construction, and/or operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company and external organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel at least 25% of the time.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in natural gas gathering, compression, processing, fractionation, construction and/or operations.
  • Experience with acid gas handling and process equipment.
  • Process simulation and pipeline modeling experience with HYSYS, PROMAX, WinSim, WinFlow, Synergee, FlareNet, or similar applications.
  • Experience with rotating equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project.
  • 3+ years of experience in project engineering and/or project management.

Responsibilities

  • Size and specify mechanical equipment including separators, filters, tanks, heat exchangers, air coolers, pumps, compressors, treaters, and dehydrators.
  • Provide technical support to operations including troubleshooting, debottlenecking, optimization, and maintenance projects.
  • Possess knowledge of midstream process controls and instrumentation.
  • Design gas and liquid piping, meter stations, compressor stations, and pump stations.
  • Develop station process simulations and material & energy balances using ProMax software.
  • Develop scope of work/for-bid packages for engineering, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Track/forecast costs and milestone schedules and communicate progress to project stakeholders.
  • Complete projects through the entire project lifecycle including feasibility studies, detailed engineering, and construction management.
  • Continuously review assets to enhance safety, mechanical reliability, operational flexibility, and capacity.
  • Ensure compliance with Local, State, Federal and Targa Safety & Environmental regulations.
