About The Position

The Area Coordinator is responsible for working with fellow residence life staff to select, train, supervise, and evaluate all student staff including Resident Assistants and the Assistant Area Coordinators. This position directly supervises 28 student staff and makes every effort to create an environment in campus housing which contributes to the total learning and development of students. The Area Coordinator provides personal counseling to students and student staff, assists the Resident Assistants in creating a community atmosphere in campus housing, and promotes safety and security in campus housing through cooperation with the Department of University Police. Additionally, the Area Coordinator develops and implements check-in and check-out procedures for the beginning and end of each semester, mediates roommate conflicts, and coordinates the room inventory process and corresponding fines. Regular staff meetings with student staff are conducted to convey administrative information and interpret procedures as necessary. The Area Coordinator also coordinates events throughout the year, maintains a strong presence in campus housing, and promotes communication among the Division of Student Life, resident students, and student staff members.
