The Area Coordinator is a live-in, full-time professional staff member who plays a crucial role in the Office of Residential Life and the Residential Experience team at Skidmore College. This position involves overseeing the residential life program, which includes managing a team of Resident Assistants (RAs) and a Community Assistant (CA). The Area Coordinator is responsible for creating a supportive and engaging living environment for students, ensuring their well-being and addressing any issues that may arise within the residential community. In this role, the Area Coordinator will recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of 10-15 RAs and one CA. Regular meetings will be held with each RA and CA to provide ongoing support, feedback, and to discuss various student issues, community trends, and programmatic concerns. The Area Coordinator will also facilitate bi-weekly team meetings to foster collaboration and communication among the staff. The position requires the Area Coordinator to manage daily operations for designated residence halls and apartment buildings, which includes conducting routine walkthroughs, inspecting facilities, and reporting any concerns. Additionally, the Area Coordinator will assist with housing operations, including residence hall openings and closings, room changes, and data management through the StarRez system. The Area Coordinator will also play a key role in the development and implementation of training programs for student staff, as well as participate in the housing selection process for new and returning students. The Area Coordinator will be involved in various meetings, including weekly residential life staff meetings and division meetings, and will support the department through summer assignments that may include oversight of summer student housing and first-year experience partnerships. The role also involves participating in the Residential Life On-Call (RLOC) rotation, responding to serious incidents or emergencies on campus, and advising RAs in handling incidents or policy violations. The Area Coordinator will adjudicate alleged violations of college policy and follow up on student concerns, utilizing the Maxient system for documentation. Collaboration with campus partners is essential, particularly in implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) trainings and initiatives for student staff. The Area Coordinator will serve as a resource for students, staff, faculty, and families, providing information about the College and its resources, and will work to enhance the residential experience through various programs and initiatives.
