Simmons University, located in Boston's historic Fenway area, is seeking an Area Coordinator (AC) for its residential life program. The AC will report to the Assistant Director for Residential Engagement and will be responsible for community and student development within the university's residence halls. This role involves providing leadership and supervision for a residential area housing approximately 600 students, including oversight of up to 2 Graduate Assistants and up to 16 Resident Advisors. The AC is tasked with creating a caring and inclusive environment that fosters a genuine sense of belonging among residents and staff. The responsibilities of the Area Coordinator include direct support and guidance to residents through programming, advising, and referrals aimed at promoting the academic, emotional, and social development of each student. The AC will coordinate the development of programs in collaboration with Graduate Assistants and Resident Advisors, manage the programming budget, and track programmatic efforts. Regular supervisory meetings with student staff will be conducted, and the AC will participate in an on-call duty rotation throughout the year. Additionally, the AC will serve as a hearing officer in the student conduct process and will dedicate time to meet individually with residents needing assistance or mediation. The role also involves participating in annual departmental processes such as the opening and closing of residence halls, conducting inspections of student rooms, and collaborating with professional staff in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of staff members. The Area Coordinator will represent the Residence Life department on various committees and collaborate with other university offices to enhance the student experience.
