About The Position

The Area Coordinator for University Housing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is responsible for overseeing the implementation of a residential curriculum model aimed at fostering academic success, personal growth, community engagement, and social justice among students. This role involves direct supervision of professional staff, management of hall operations, and the development of policies and procedures to enhance the residential experience for approximately 8,500 students. The Area Coordinator will also contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the university housing environment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree.
  • Three years of full-time experience in residential life or related fields.
  • Experience directly supervising staff.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or related field.
  • Current work in residential life or university housing.
  • Advanced supervisory skills and demonstrated leadership in residence hall operations.
  • Experience implementing a residential curriculum.
  • Ability to speak other languages in addition to English.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise 4 to 5 full-time professional residence hall directors and 1-3 desk supervisors, conducting regular one-on-one supervisory meetings.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and indirect supervision of student staff, including Resident Advisors and Office Assistants.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate training and development sessions for staff to support diverse needs.
  • Lead staff in creating and implementing lesson plans for the residential curriculum.
  • Oversee the evaluation and assessment of curricular strategies within the area.
  • Assist in recruitment and selection of professional and support staff.
  • Conduct performance appraisals for professional and support staff.
  • Provide leadership for area staff on hall operations and administrative duties.
  • Provide leadership and support in the development and implementation of the residential curriculum model.
  • Serve as a University level judicial officer and conduct appeal agent for Residence Hall Director sanctioning.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with staff and faculty in Student Affairs and Academic Affairs.
