About The Position

The Area Coordinator for Residence Life & Education at the University of Florida is responsible for the management and direction of assigned residence halls. This role involves coordinating with various internal units to ensure the safety, security, and maintenance of the buildings, as well as overseeing educational programming and community development initiatives. The Area Coordinator serves as a liaison between residents and university resources, manages crisis situations, and supervises staff, all while promoting a positive living environment that encourages student engagement and success.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization or a bachelor's degree with four years of relevant experience.
  • Three years of experience within University Housing.
  • Proven ability to supervise or lead a high-functioning team.
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis management.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and experiential learning processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong planning, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct assigned residence halls.
  • Coordinate room reassignments, transfers, and occupancy verification.
  • Facilitate building preparation initiatives and project coordination.
  • Serve as the liaison to internal units ensuring building safety and maintenance.
  • Conduct building and public facility inspections.
  • Support educational programs within Living Learning Communities.
  • Evaluate student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate on plans for residence hall openings and closings.
  • Review and create recommendations for area policies and procedures.
  • Act as a point of contact for residents and their families.
  • Promote on-campus living experiences and student retention.
  • Ensure effective crisis management and emergency procedures are followed.
  • Serve in after-hours on-call rotation for emergencies.
  • Manage educational programming within residence halls.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other university departments.
  • Advise student leaders involved with Area Government.
  • Supervise staff and manage administrative functions for residence halls.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate full-time staff.
  • Plan and manage budgets for areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate on-call staff schedules for appropriate coverage.
  • Enforce policies and procedures for residence halls.
  • Supervise and train Resident Assistants and Graduate Assistants.
  • Lead annual student staff initiatives and training programs.
  • Coordinate Graduate Assistant recruitment processes.
  • Implement and evaluate the residential curriculum.
  • Enforce Student Honor Code and Student Conduct Code.
  • Serve as a hearing officer for conduct cases.
  • Mediating student and community concerns.
  • Develop reports and handle special projects as assigned.
