About The Position

This position as an Area Chief Engineer is responsible for overall engineering operations at the area hotels supporting multiple brands. The Area Chief Engineer will oversee the DoubleTree by Hilton McLean Tysons and Courtyard by Marriott Tysons McLean and use your leadership skills leadership and technical skills to ensure effective implementation of maintenance programming and corporate standards to maximize the efficacy of the engineering staff, and the reliability and longevity of building equipment and systems. Effective support of assigned staff to ensure achievement of overall financial results, guest satisfaction and positive team members relations.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. College degree or equivalent experience preferred. Professional certifications in HVAC, boiler operation, electrical, or plumbing preferred or the ability to obtain certification based on policy guidelines.
  • Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 10+ years of engineering management experience required, preferably in the hotel industry. Must be detail oriented, have ability to communicate well with all levels within and outside the organization, and be able to problem-solve with team members and guests. Must be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally lift, push, and pull up to 100 pounds consistently throughout shift.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering: Understand and be able to demonstrate criticality of preventive maintenance, routine inspections, guest service recovery, asset protection, procurement guidelines and capital expenditures as it relates to the engineering function. Teach and demonstrate to field engineers the impact of maintaining company assets within budget guidelines and how it impacts the overall financial success of the hotel division.
  • CMMS Systems and Monitoring: Demonstrate a mastery of computerized maintenance management systems and support use in the field. Assist field team with set up and proper use of CMS system. Where applicable remotely monitor all building systems to ensure proper use of technology and set up and response to alerts.
  • Inspection and Reporting: Conduct routine inspections of hotels and engineering operations, formal and informal, to ensure compliance with standards. Assesses and evaluate functionality of all equipment and assets. Review maintenance work to ensure length of life and usefulness of items can be realized. Prepare written reports summarizing findings when appropriate.
  • Capital Projects: Directly manage select mechanical and related capital projects on behalf of ownership. Liaise with hotel leadership and contractors to ensure smooth implementation of projects. Assist AVP with identification of project needs and preparation of capital budgets.
  • Troubleshooting: Support field teams in resolution of problems or systemic engineering issues and provide repair/maintenance solutions
  • Expense Management: Seeks and implements cost saving measures and efficient purchasing strategies in order to meet/exceed budget for expenses. Assist field team with obtaining quotes and implementing strategies to minimize M&R expenses.
  • Vendor relations: Interact with vendors to help manage successful deployment of preferred vendor agreements. Identify new vendors for consideration.
  • Standards Implementation: Follows B. F. Saul Company Hospitality Group’s standard operating procedures: Be knowledgeable in all engineering SOP’s, and assist field team with compliance of standards.
  • Engineering Leader Assessment: Routinely review and assess efficacy of engineering leadership. Communicate issues or opportunities for growth or advancement among field engineers.
  • Training: Provides on-the-job-training: Identifies training opportunities and provide one-on-one or group training in specific tasks or SOP’s as appropriate.
  • Innovation: Seek, identify, and research innovative technologies, processes, entities, etc. that represent potential value additions to the engineering function of the hospitality group.
  • Works collaboratively with all others: Supports all departments to ensure excellent customer service as it relates to maintenance and equipment issues.
  • Self/Workload Management: Must have high attention to detail, good communication skills, leadership ability and excellent problem solving skills. Must have high level of technical expertise as it relates to the position. Must have excellent organization skills, a high degree of creativity to facilitate efficient problem solving. Must be able to manage multiple priorities and have high attention to detail. Must be able to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and tight deadlines.
  • Travel: Visit all hotels in portfolio at a frequency necessary to meet above requirements.
