About The Position

Manage a caseload of students with regard to programming needs and collaborative efforts between service providers, administration, instructional personnel, and parents/guardians. Facilitate the Admission, Review, and Dismissal committee process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with an emphasis in special Education
  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development, and learning theories
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing special education
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Three years of teaching experience in a special education setting

Responsibilities

  • Collect and organize relevant assessment data from student's cumulative folder, classroom teacher(s), principal, support staff, parents, and outside resource personnel.
  • Conduct classroom observations and personal interviews.
  • Facilitate the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee regarding interpretation of evaluation data, development of Individual Education Plans (IEP), and appropriate placement for students according to district procedures.
  • Consult with parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of evaluation data.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and campus personnel.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Articulate the district's mission and goals in the area of special education services to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required by federal and state rules and regulations and district policy and procedures.
  • Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.
  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
  • Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.
  • Assist in developing and coordinating a continuing evaluation of the assessment program.
  • Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student information.
  • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.
  • Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment including but not limited to current evaluation practices, case management strategies, instructional and behavioral strategies for students.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Complete all other duties as may be assigned.
