About The Position

The Archivist position at Loyola University Chicago involves managing archival collections, providing reference services, and engaging in outreach activities. The role is based at the Rogers Park-Lake Shore Campus within the Cudahy Library. The Archivist will be responsible for arranging and describing archival collections, updating finding aids, and ensuring collections are accessible to staff and researchers. The position also includes conducting research for various projects, managing social media and outreach efforts, and participating in professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Library Science, Public History, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of relevant archival experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current archival theory and practice.
  • Experience arranging and describing archival collections.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Knowledge of archival management software such as ArchiveIt, ArchivesSpace, or PastPerfect.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program with a concentration in Archives.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring students.
  • Professional content creation experience with social media platforms.
  • Experience with Adobe products.

Responsibilities

  • Arranges and describes archival collections and updates finding aids.
  • Tracks unprocessed collections and updates internal documentation.
  • Makes collections available online by posting finding aids and digital materials.
  • Provides reference services and responds to reference requests.
  • Conducts research for WLA projects including exhibits and publications.
  • Assists in instruction and organizes educational activities.
  • Manages WLA social media and creates content for newsletters.
  • Collaborates with other departments and organizations for outreach programs.
  • Monitors WLA voicemail and updates SharePoint as needed.
  • Maintains documentation of policies and procedures for WLA staff.
  • Assists in training graduate assistants and volunteers.
