About The Position

Salt Lake City Corporation has internship opportunities with our Public Services Department, Architecture and Construction Management (ACM) Division’s team! The Public Services ACM Division administers the design and procurement of construction projects in City-owned property outside of the public way, funded by the City’s Capital Improvement Program and City’s Department of Public Lands, Revenue bond, General Obligation bond, and other sources. The interns will work with the “Architecture and Construction Management” group that focuses on design and construction administration of architecture projects and construction administration of landscape architecture projects for multiple departments within the City. The projects include various improvements to City facilities; public buildings; and City parks – all important areas of the City’s growing infrastructure that everyone uses. Typical tasks include support to project managers, designers, or inspectors during the construction season. These internships come with the opportunity to learn and perform a wide range of project activities. The position is designed to provide students with paid professional experience to further their education and training and is academically oriented for the student’s benefit. To qualify students must be enrolled in an accredited school program related to the type of work they are expected to perform. Positions will terminate upon completion of the internship period. Incumbents may deal with confidential information, which is expected to be maintained as confidential and shared only on a need-to-know basis with City employees and elsewhere when authorized by the intern’s City supervisor. Internship will begin Summer 2027. This is a seasonal, non-benefited position, not to exceed 6 months of employment. Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, though summer internships may not require concurrent enrollment if student is in good standing with the educational institution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Must have good organizational and analytical skills.
  • Must have good computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • An Architecture/ Landscape Architecture/Civil Engineer/Construction Management/Or other related field student who will complete either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited university for their field of study within the next 18 months.
  • Comfortable interacting with contractors, design consultants and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Procore, Power BI, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Excel and Word. Knowledge of these software platforms is not a requirement of the position.
  • Demonstrated community service, participation in professional or student groups.
  • Possess a valid driver license.

Responsibilities

  • Collects data and reviews research materials, determines accuracy and validity of sources and appropriateness for use.
  • May design, develop, and conduct a variety of research projects for the architecture and construction management group; determine appropriate methodologies, information sources, sampling strategies, and data-collection tools, etc.
  • Performs research activities by utilizing computer software to obtain and manipulate data.
  • Writes or drafts technical reports, articles or related material based on research, investigation or analysis.
  • Under the guidance of the Project Manager, provide preliminary review and comment on contractor payment applications.
  • Applies standard, accepted design and construction engineering/architecture/landscape architecture principles and best practices.
  • Assist in updating city standards such as details, forms, and process.
  • Construction observation of City contracted work.
  • Observation to determine compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Complies with city and department policies and procedures.
