About The Position

The Architectural/Interior Design Specialist at Northern Virginia Community College is responsible for managing space planning projects, maintaining accurate floor plans, and assisting with the procurement and installation of fixtures, furnishings, and equipment for various college projects. This part-time role involves collaboration with project managers and requires travel to different campuses for surveys and assessments.

Requirements

  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience with commercial furniture selection and specification.
  • Experience with space planning, test fits, and move coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Manage small scale projects including space planning, test fits, move coordination, and furniture selection.
  • Assist Project Management team on large-scale projects in similar areas.
  • Develop scopes of work based on client requests.
  • Travel to different campuses for surveys.
  • Use AutoCAD and Revit for floor plan updates and layout designs.
  • Create and update miscellaneous plans such as evacuation maps and campus maps.
  • Document finishes and furniture in spreadsheets for surveyed spaces.
  • Work with the manager to create and document finish and furniture standards for the college.
  • Select interior finishes and FF&E.
  • Create furniture specification sheets and request vendor quotes.
  • Assess life-cycle furniture replacement needs and plan for replacements.
  • Coordinate the surplus and/or reuse of old furniture.
  • Maintain the resource library and schedule updates with architectural finish representatives.
  • Support move planning and on-site move coordination.
