About The Position

Your Opportunity Our Arlington office is looking for an engaged and enthusiastic student attending college or university for Architecture to join us as an intern this summer, supporting Buildings Government Services. Learning begins in the classroom but there's no better place to gain real-world experience than with Stantec. Interns are an integral part of our teams, working to solve some of the most complex challenges, and bringing fresh perspective and new ideas to the table. At Stantec we design with community in mind, and you will have an opportunity to be enrolled in our company wide intern development summer program. In this program you will join a diversified team of your peers guided by our experienced interior designers, architects and engineers as you collaboratively work together on a community enriching project. You will work on tasks with close guidance and direction from an Architect or Senior Designer. You will be working on projects specializing in complex multi-disciplinary building design. You will be assisting with conducting design research with sustainability in mind, project documentation, and participate in client meetings. The development of collaborative skills and integration with all our disciplines is a fundamental principle for Stantec Architecture and Design. Being an active member of our team will help you on your way to obtaining your professional license through the breadth of your experience. As an intern at Stantec, you'll work alongside our experienced practitioners and with our clients and communities. This hands-on experience will equip you with practical skills, build your network, and provide opportunities that set you up for success.

Requirements

  • Strong architectural graphic, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop sketches and communicate visual concepts and ideas to others effectively.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling software for technical building design; Ideal candidates have experience with Autodesk Suite (e.g. Revit, AutoCAD and Navisworks).
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Works well in a collaborative environment and an ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • General understanding of building codes and common construction systems.
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in architecture, or pursuing a secondary education in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Support the project design team in development of technical documentation and client presentations.
  • Assist in the development of construction documents including plans, sections, elevations & details.
  • Conduct research and participating in review of project-specific codes, standards and guidelines.
  • Assemble project submissions and verifying contract compliance.
  • Prepare and review project renderings.
  • Utilize BIM technologies to develop 3D models of buildings and their components.
  • Attend meetings, both internal and client facing, with goals of observation of the coordination of designs and direct presentations.
  • Support the standardization and curation of office digital resource library.
