About The Position

GFT is looking for an Architectural Building Assessor to join our team! The Structural/Architectural Building Assessor conducts on-site assessments of architectural and structural building components for large FCA portfolios. This role documents deficiencies, supports repair/replacement recommendations, and completes data entry and reporting following fieldwork. The position is ideal for professionals seeking hourly, flexible, travel-based assessment work in support of high-volume programs. In the capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Field assessment (structural/architectural) Perform on-site assessments of building envelope and architectural systems (roofs, exterior walls, doors/windows, interior finishes, life-safety-related architectural elements) and structural components (foundations, framing, load-bearing systems where observable). Identify deficiencies, deterioration, and functional issues; capture clear field notes and photo documentation as required. Apply standardized inventory and condition assessment concepts used in FCA programs (e.g., system/component categorization aligned with common industry frameworks such as UNIFORMAT/ASTM-based approaches). Data capture, QA/QC, and reporting support Use mobile devices/tablets and established data platforms to capture inventory and condition data efficiently Perform quality checks of collected data to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency prior to submission Support development of repair/replacement scopes and cost opinions consistent with the program methodology. Complete post-field remote data entry and clarifications during the reporting week(s) following travel. Travel & logistics Participating in a travel cadence typically consists of one week of fieldwork (often flying out Sunday and returning Friday) followed by remote documentation/data entry, with occasional longer trips for remote sites (e.g., territories/remote locations). Follow all travel authorization and expense reporting requirements, coordinate bookings per program guidance. Adhere to safety expectations and site access requirements (including installation protocols).

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in building assessments, facility inspections, architecture, building science, construction, structural assessment, or related fields.
  • Ability to evaluate building components in the field and document findings clearly and consistently.
  • Comfortable working independently in the field and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with mobile data collection and basic digital reporting workflows.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly for week-long site visits.
  • Hourly/as-needed staffing structure supported; ability to accommodate part-time schedules and experienced/semi-retired professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional licensure or progress toward licensure (RA, PE, SE) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Prior or large-portfolio FCA experience.
  • Familiarity with FCA methodologies, including component categorization (e.g., UNIFORMAT), ASTM E1557 concepts, and Facility Condition Index (FCI) inputs/outputs.
  • Experience developing repair recommendations and order-of-magnitude cost opinions.
