About The Position

Performs complex architectural work to include space planning, design, construction and maintenance of buildings. Work requires contact and/or coordination with division/district/regional support center (RSC) personnel, governmental and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Architecture.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in architecture-related work. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must be registered as an Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
  • Considerable knowledge of: Architectural fundamentals and applications Construction drawings and estimating Facility planning, design and site development Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes
  • Expert skill in: Reviewing plans for accuracy and ensuring compliance with requirements
  • Proficient skill in: Speaking to present images and ideas in a clear, concise, organized, and interesting manner to optimize audience understanding and keep the group focused Monitoring the status and progress of projects Prioritizing projects/workload and meeting deadlines Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Fingering-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
  • Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
  • Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
  • Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for complex architectural projects from initiation to completion.
  • Reviews consultant's plans, specifications and estimates, construction and design documents, policies and procedures, standards and/or guidelines.
  • Assists with estimation of proposed construction costs and prioritizes proposed projects.
  • Coordinates the work of architectural project teams, including modular furniture design/installations, project inspection/observation, physical relocations of personnel/equipment and building services, maintenance and security.
  • Develops and prepares consultant work orders and agreements.
  • Oversees, coordinates and monitors building projects performed by architectural consultants.
  • Performs architectural work in coordination with engineering and support associates.
  • Prepares and seals final plans, specifications, estimates and other necessary construction and contract documentation for letting.
  • Trains less experience Registered Architects and/or Intern Architects.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
