About The Position

AECOM is seeking an Architect I to be based in Detroit, MI. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career professional to contribute to impactful architectural projects while engaging in community development initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, creativity, and a passion for fostering meaningful connections within the Detroit community. This position is expected to begin ASAP.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Architecture or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Architecture (M.Arch) is preferred.
  • Fluency in Revit and proficiency in other design tools such as SketchUp, Rhino, and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across diverse groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in Community Development projects, with a focus on not-for-profit program participation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-member team on projects.
  • A passion for community engagement and a desire to contribute to Detroit’s growth and revitalization.

Responsibilities

  • Performing basic architectural/engineering calculations to support project designs.
  • Preparing specifications, reports, and related data tables with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Maintaining liaison with design and drafting groups to ensure seamless project coordination.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and approving drawings as required to meet project deliverables.
  • Under the direction of the Supervising Architect, performing technical assignments of moderate complexity within approved schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinating technical and administrative activities with employees across disciplines and departments participating in assigned projects.
  • Assisting in the training and evaluation of assigned architectural and design/drafting personnel.
  • Contributing to community engagement efforts, including stakeholder collaboration and outreach activities, particularly in alignment with AECOM’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.
  • Play a leadership role in the Detroit Summer Fellowship program, a community development initiative aimed at fostering local talent and driving impactful change in Detroit neighborhoods.
  • Leverage experience in community development projects, including not-for-profit program participation and stakeholder engagement, to guide and inspire program participants.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate community-focused design principles into architectural solutions.
