Meta is seeking an Architect experienced in the design and construction of Critical Facilities to become part of our Data Center Design-Engineering Organization: Building Systems Engineering team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates. Building and operating reliable and efficient data centers is essential to support the growth of Meta. The Data Center Design-Engineering organization collaborates with all key stakeholders to ensure design and engineering of our data centers incorporate considerations from micro-levels (servers and IT equipment design requirements) to macro-levels (mechanical cooling and power distribution options) to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability of our compute infrastructure. As an integral part of the Building Systems Engineering Team, the BSE Architect will collaborate with multiple stakeholders including cross-discipline partners across the Design Engineering organization; internal partners including Strategic Systems & Technology, Site Development, Planning & Development, Construction Management, and Operations Teams, in addition to external partners including Architects and Engineers of Record (AEoR), general contractors, and regulatory agencies to support the delivery of data center capacity safely, on time, within budget, and of high quality, aligned with the pace of fast-tracked design and construction. This position is full-time.

  • Lead the development of the masterplan design for new data center regions and region expansions across the Meta data center portfolio, in conjunction with Strategic Systems & Technology Architects, New Product Teams (Site Lifecycle Management), Site Development and the Design Development & Delivery teams
  • Deliver technical roadmap initiatives (R&D) including novel building systems, and new core & shell system topologies and configurations. Set strategies and deliver to the Meta DC program priorities, including (but not limited to) space planning, material efficiencies, sustainability goals, CapEx reduction, OpEx reduction, speed to market in construction, (eg minimization of on-site installation labor)
  • Provide technical inputs and direction to ensure embedment of prior “lessons learned” into new DC Products and initiatives
  • Facilitate regular project meetings, retrospectives, and reviews to drive transparency and continuous improvement
  • Scope, manage and administer project/program level Contracts, review/approve change cost proposals, value engineering proposals, invoices, vendor reports/audits/studies and other design-related deliverables
  • Provide Architecture Discipline Technical leadership, delivering the following key functions: Change Management administration, including providing technical inputs, adjudication and/or escalation of key issues or changes, and progressing changes through internal processes
  • Standards Program: Architecture standards inputs and review
  • Architect Lead for MOFE/OFE/ Prefab Program
  • Architecture discipline information-sharing, lessons learned coordination and implementation, New Hire onboarding and x-discipline collaboration
  • Registered Architect
  • 10+ years of professional experience in mission critical campus and building design, construction and/or operations
  • Experience on large scale design and construction projects
  • Experience with industry standards, building codes and safety standards. Experience in full datacenter project life-cycle activities (including producing site test fits, product and concept design development, and supporting partner Design and Construction teams, to enable successful turnover to Operations)
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining design standards and governance of same
  • Experience with Google Suite, Revit/BIM, Bluebeam, Autodesk, ACC, or similar design software applications
  • Project Management experience
  • Knowledge depth (SME) of building systems design and architectural details for steel, concrete, and mass timber structures
  • Knowledge in geotechnical/soils design, concrete and steel structural design, landscape architecture, sustainable design, interior/exterior finish systems, and design of culinary and physical security systems
  • Knowledge of mission critical building systems, including mechanical, electrical, controls, fire protection and connectivity/ telecoms systems
  • Knowledge of industry standards, building codes, and safety standards including IBC, ASCE, and European equivalents
  • Knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs
  • Proven analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
  • Experience providing solutions to complex projects under pressure
  • Presentation and communication skills to peers, stakeholders and leadership
