About The Position

The AMA YMCA is seeking a focused, safety-conscious, and energetic Archery Instructor to lead our 6-week recreational youth archery program for participants ages 5 years and older. This class introduces youth to the fundamentals of archery while promoting discipline, patience, and self-confidence in a supportive, structured environment. We’re looking for an instructor who can provide a fun and educational experience while ensuring all participants learn proper form, equipment use, and safety practices. Whether students are picking up a bow for the first time or looking to improve their aim, your guidance will help them grow with every arrow. Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must have a strong focus on safety and risk management.
  • Experience working with children in a coaching, education, or recreational setting.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to plan and lead fun, educational archery sessions for all ability levels.
  • Reliable, organized, and passionate about youth development.
  • Available to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in archery (instruction, competition, or certification) preferred.
  • USA Archery or equivalent certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structured 6-week archery classes with a focus on beginner skill development.
  • Instruct youth on proper archery technique, including stance, draw, aim, and release.
  • Ensure a strong emphasis on safety protocols at all times, including range setup, supervision, and equipment checks.
  • Create a fun, respectful, and confidence-building environment for all participants.
  • Modify instruction based on student age and experience to ensure skill progression.
  • Communicate clearly with parents and guardians regarding safety, progress, and expectations.
  • Promote YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all interactions.
  • Maintain archery equipment and range to ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the youth program.
