Position Summary: The Contract Archeology Program at the Kansas Historical Society is seeking a new Archeologist to join our team. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Topeka. This position is responsible for overseeing projects as part of the agency's contract archeology program. This program contracts with KDOT to perform archeological reviews for upcoming highway projects. The person in this position will analyze the potential of these projects to affect the state's archeological resources through background research, archeological survey, testing, and report writing to the standards set in the Kansas SHPO's Guide to Archeological Survey, Assessment and Reports. Candidates must have a graduate degree in archeology, anthropology, or closely related field.

  • A graduate degree in archeology, anthropology, or a closely related field
  • Valid driver's license
  • At least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archeological research, administration or management
  • At least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archeology
  • A demonstrated ability to carry research to completion, as per the professional quailification standards of the Secretary of the Interior (36 CFR Part 61)
