About The Position

Under immediate supervision, this position is responsible for assisting with various tasks as required in Environmental Division. EXAMPLES OF WORK The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.

Requirements

  • Student pursuing the educational equivalent of an accredited bachelor’s degree or master's degree in archeology, anthropology, or a closely related field; have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0; and completion of 60 college hours toward this degree.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Basic knowledge and application of safe roadside work practices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Basic knowledge of use of GPS equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (written and oral).
  • Proactive and able to work independently.
  • Dependable, well organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability withstand fieldwork in various weather conditions, including ability to traverse rugged terrain.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Phase I archeological surveys of highway corridors and contractor’s off-site use areas.
  • Generate associated report documentation.
  • GPS data collection
  • Analysis of records check, historic maps, aerial imagery, and field data
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks in a learning capacity.
