About The Position

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of professional archaeology principles and theories.
  • Experience identifying artifacts and cultural features in the field.
  • Proficient in archaeological research and reporting, including research design and report writing.
  • Understanding of standard computer programs, especially MS Windows OS and Office software.
  • Experience in a structured, hierarchical workplace with a defined chain-of-command.
  • Good physical condition to walk several miles carrying gear in a hot desert environment.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one by employment start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
  • Prior professional work experience in the Mojave Desert or Great Basin regions.
  • Meet the Secretary of Interior's professional qualification standards in Archaeology.
  • Register of Professional Archaeologist (RPA) certification.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with diverse data.
  • Experience managing tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Ability to act with diplomacy and discretion at all organizational levels.
  • Experience with GPS data collection and GIS software.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with EAFB CRM to identify sites lacking eligibility consensus determinations.
  • Gather necessary documentation to support eligibility recommendations for each site and prepare updated site records.
  • Retrieve, review, scan, assemble, and curate documentation in the EAFB database with appropriate citations.
  • Conduct field visits when documentation is unclear and requires ground truthing and testing.
  • Prepare updates to ensure eligibility documentation is complete and complies with EAFB and SHPO standards.
  • Track and report monthly progress on projects.
  • Consolidate and develop Annual Progress Reports and Final Project Reports.
  • Participate in meetings with EAFB Environmental Office personnel regarding project tasks and progress.
  • Regularly communicate via meetings, tele/video conferences, and email regarding project aspects.
  • Maintain and provide accurate GIS data and maps.
