The Parks & Recreation Department is hiring a seasonal Arborist to join their Team! Work as part of a team to beautify and maintain city parks and facilities. This is a skilled labor position involving knowledge and practical experience in the maintenance and identification of trees and shrubs common to the Steamboat Springs area. This is a 40 hour per week seasonal position for approximately 6 months, May – October. THE QUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL: Serves as an ambassador of the City of Steamboat Springs and upholds City values of Service, Teamwork, Integrity, Well-being, Respect and Compassion, while espousing safety at all times.

Requirements

Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license
Graduation from high school or completion of GED
Minimum two (2) years of experience in urban forestry, landscape construction and/or maintenance, general construction practices and experience in the operation of a wide variety of light and heavy equipment and tools used in construction and maintenance work

Nice To Haves

Able to identify trees and shrubs
Certification through International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist program

Responsibilities

Very technical skills involved in pruning and removal of trees and shrubs
Tree and shrub identification
Tree maintenance activities such as pruning and planting
Tree and shrub pests and diseases and recommended control measures
The general practices applied in the care and safe operation of a wide variety of light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment (bobcats/tool cats, trucks, trailers, woodchipper, chainsaws, hand tools, etc.)
Deals effectively with the public and other City employees
Safely operate and train others in the safe operation of mechanical hand tools, and various light and heavy equipment
Follows oral and written instructions
Reads and understands construction documents
Develops and maintains maintenance schedules
Performs work without direct supervision
