About The Position

The Arborist Trainee Internship at The Davey Tree Expert Company involves trimming and removing trees, as well as managing unwanted, diseased, or dying limbs to ensure the health and safety of trees and surrounding areas. Interns will learn to climb trees, operate as part of a tree crew, and progressively acquire new skills related to tree care and maintenance.

Requirements

• Love of the outdoors.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR, and defensive driving course upon hire.

Nice To Haves

• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights.
• Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees.
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully.
• Identify trees and follow industry pruning guidelines.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in the removal of hazardous trees.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
