Position Overview The Tree Crew Lead is responsible for supervising and guiding a team of arborists and ground crew members during tree care operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This is a hands-on leadership role, combining technical tree care expertise with crew management, customer service, and safety oversight. The ideal candidate is an experienced arborist who can lead by example, mentor crew members, and communicate effectively with clients and management.

Requirements

  • Minimum 35 years of experience in tree care, arboriculture, or a related field.
  • Proven experience leading a crew or team on job sites.
  • Strong knowledge of tree biology, pruning techniques, rigging, and aerial work.
  • Valid drivers license; CDL preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically capable of performing climbing and ground tasks in varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • ISA Certified Arborist preferred; climbing certifications a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct tree care crews on residential and commercial job sites.
  • Assign tasks, monitor work quality, and ensure safety protocols are followed.
  • Mentor and train junior climbers, ground personnel, and new hires.
  • Provide performance feedback and assist management in crew development.
  • Participate in climbing, pruning, removals, rigging, and aerial lift operations as needed.
  • Ensure work meets arboricultural best practices and company standards.
  • Plan daily operations in coordination with management to ensure jobs are completed on time and within scope.
  • Enforce all safety policies and OSHA standards on job sites.
  • Conduct pre-job safety briefings and assess sites for hazards.
  • Maintain proper use and inspection of PPE, climbing gear, tools, and equipment.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, providing updates and addressing questions or concerns.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality work and maintaining a positive company image.
  • Maintain and inspect climbing ropes, harnesses, trucks, chippers, and other equipment.
  • Track hours worked, job details, and equipment usage for accurate reporting.
  • Report maintenance or safety issues to management promptly.
