About The Position

The Food Runner/Busser plays a vital role in ensuring smooth operations and exceptional customer service in a restaurant or food service establishment. They are responsible for delivering food from the kitchen to the dining area, assisting servers, and maintaining a clean and organized environment. The food runner/busser is an integral part of the dining experience, ensuring efficient service and a pleasant atmosphere for guests. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Requirements

  • High school education, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience in a similar food service role is preferred but not always required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with guests and team members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and lift heavy trays or objects as required.
  • Excellent organizational skills to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • A positive and customer-focused attitude.
  • Hours required: Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs.
  • Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift: • Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing of ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 30 lbs. Must be able to work safely and effectively in outdoor temperatures. Summer temperatures outside can get above 95 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 months of year. For 2 months of year, low temperatures can get below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
  • Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, reports, and log sheets. Must be able to work with computers and PDAs in varying light conditions.
  • Literacy: Must be able to produce, read and understand reports, including security, incident and police reports. Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
  • Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Food Delivery: • Collect food orders from the kitchen and ensure accuracy.
  • Deliver food to the appropriate tables in a timely manner, following proper serving etiquette.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff and servers to ensure orders are complete and meet quality standards.
  • Handle multiple orders simultaneously while maintaining order accuracy and efficiency.
  • Table Setup and Clearing: • Assist in setting up tables before guests arrive, ensuring they are clean, properly arranged, and have necessary utensils and condiments.
  • Clear tables promptly after guests finish dining, removing used dishes, utensils, and glassware.
  • Reset tables quickly for new guests, ensuring cleanliness and readiness.
  • Dining Area Maintenance: • Continuously monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the dining area, including floors, chairs, tables, and service stations.
  • Keep beverage stations and condiment areas fully stocked, clean, and presentable.
  • Regularly remove trash and maintain proper waste disposal procedures.
  • Collaborate with the cleaning staff to address any spills or messes promptly.
  • Team Collaboration: • Communicate effectively with servers, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth coordination of food delivery and table clearing.
  • Assist servers in addressing guest requests promptly and courteously.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive and efficient work environment.
  • Customer Service: • Provide friendly, attentive, and efficient service to guests, assisting with any inquiries or requests they may have.
  • Ensure a positive dining experience by being knowledgeable about the menu, specials, and restaurant offerings.
  • Anticipate and respond to guest needs promptly, going the extra mile to exceed expectations.
  • Adherence to Policies and Procedures: • Follow all Arbor Grill policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, including hygiene and sanitation practices.
  • Adhere to established food handling and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a professional and presentable appearance at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
