About The Position

(ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 26,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. The Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC) Aquatics team plays a huge role in the operations of the BRIC Pool and Lounge area. The team consists of staff who assist with the day-to-day operations by providing aquatic safety during all operating hours of the pool. Aquatics offers instructional activity programs and certification courses for students to partake. The team also focuses on creating a fun, safe, and exciting programs and special events for campus community members to enjoy. Aquatics provides an opportunity to develop strong leadership skills, professional development, work in a team environment, and be part of a great organization. Under minimal supervision from the Aquatics Manager, the Aquatics Supervisor Programs provides supervision of the Aquatics Instructor team and directly supports the Aquatics Manager in aquatic events and program development and implementation. The Aquatics Supervisor of Programs performs routine and complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge, prior relevant experience, and considerable independent judgment and decision-making. The Aquatics Supervisor of programs supervises Aquatic Instructors, collaborates, and regularly interacts with program area, department, and ASI team members. Must be available to attend all mandatory trainings, meetings, and in-services.

Requirements

  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Oxygen, First Aid for Lifeguards and advanced first aid certification
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification and Water Safety Instructor certification (Employment offer contingent on obtaining at least one of the certifications within 60 days of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the overall management of Aquatics Instructors, Aquatic Assistant Supervisor, and program operations: development, implementation, and assessment of instructional programs, including but not limited to aquatic group fitness classes, certification classes, special aquatics programs, pool activities, events, and off-campus aquatics excursions.
  • Assist with the recruitment, selection, training, performance evaluations, development, scheduling, and Time & Attendance for Aquatics Program staff
  • Assist with marketing and outreach of programs, activities, special events, and off-campus aquatics excursions
  • Assist with selection, procurement, inventory, and disbursement of program related equipment and promotional supplies
  • Assist with supporting off-campus program travel and related emergency response plan, standard operating procedures, and other travel related documentation
  • Monitor the aquatic safety of programs serving participants under the age of 18 years old at the pool
  • Assist with the development and implementation of orientations and trainings for aquatics staff
  • Assist with the Aquatics’ budget tracking system and maintenance; prepares a variety of disbursement requests (DRs) and purchase orders (POs), as requested, and prepares budget reports
  • Utilize appropriate department software and tools to complete work assignments and projects
  • Assist with the development and implementation of department-wide trainings, as needed
  • Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate activity reports as needed for aquatics
  • If serving as on-duty lifeguard, maintain constant surveillance of participants in the facility act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of participants in the event of emergency
  • Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies. Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services, as needed
  • Attend all mandatory trainings, meetings and workshops as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
