About The Position

Are you passionate about safety, training, and community impact? The City of Dublin is seeking a dedicated and safety-minded professional to join our Aquatics team as the Aquatics Safety & Training Coordinator. This position oversees all aspects of aquatic safety, staff training, and risk management within the City's aquatic facilities. The successful candidate will lead recruitment and certification of lifeguards, coordinate emergency action planning and safety drills, and ensure compliance with public health and safety regulations. The Aquatics Safety & Training Coordinator serves as a key member of the Aquatics leadership team-working closely with other coordinators and supervisor to maintain operational excellence and provide an outstanding experience for both staff and community members. Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in recreation or related field or any equivalent combination of accepted education and experience that would provide the above knowledge, abilities, and skills.
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory experience, preferably in aquatics or recreation operations.
  • Certification in work unit specific area includes: Lifeguarding certification, Lifeguarding Instructor certification, and CPO/AFO

  • Regular attendance, as governed by and in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, procedures and laws, is regarded as an essential requirement of this classification.
  • Compliance with training directives established by supervisory/managerial personnel.
  • Adherence to all applicable Federal and State safety laws, rules and regulations and City safety policies/procedures.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees lifeguard management, recruitment, and certification tracking.
  • Leads safety and emergency preparedness training, including Emergency Action Plan (EAP) updates and drills.
  • Conducts ongoing risk management and compliance oversight, reviewing and following up on incident, accident, and rescue reports.
  • Ensures all operations meet public health and safety standards; provides guidance on water chemistry and pump room operations.
  • Coordinates public safety education and community outreach initiatives.
  • Recruits, hires, onboards, and trains aquatic staff, including lifeguards and lifeguard instructors (LGIs).
  • Supervises approximately 65 - 170 staff, depending on the season.
  • Schedules lifeguards through WhenToWork, maintaining coverage and adjusting for seasonal needs.
  • Oversees performance management, coaching, and discipline to support staff success and retention.
  • Maintains training and certification records, including in-service logs, skill checks, and internal Red Cross trainings.
  • Manages all internal aquatic safety training programs (Lifeguard In-Service, Spring Training, and compliance refreshers).
  • Supports citywide safety and risk management training initiatives.
  • Maintains current certifications and ensures staff remain compliant with American Red Cross standards.
  • Serves as liaison to external certification bodies, auditors, and health inspectors.
  • Assists with facility startup, shutdown, and winterization tasks.
  • Collaborates with other coordinators, particularly in risk management and staff development areas.
  • Supports Aquatics social media accounts and serves as the primary contact for WhenToWork, scheduling software.
