About The Position

Performs a variety of general management, administrative, and first-line supervisory duties as needed to organize and coordinate the day-to-day maintenance, operations, and services of the County's seasonal municipal swimming pool facility. Organizes events and programming and event and programming staff. Supervise and manage functions of the Aquatic Center; monitor, inspect, and maintain the Aquatic Center for safety and cleanliness. Plan and schedule a variety of aquatic programs. This is a working supervisor position. The incumbent assists aquatics/events staff and others in performing their duties as assigned, especially concerning event preparation, event staffing, operations, aquatics activities, lessons, training, clubs, etc. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises Aquatic Center personnel, events, and personnel, including head lifeguards, lifeguards, ticket sales, event staff, concession operations, and custodians, and assists volunteer groups and facility patrons.

Requirements

  • Graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in recreation/events management (preferably from an NRPA accredited program), youth recreation leadership, physical education, or some other related field. OR Four (4) years of aquatics facility management, certified swimming instruction, event programming, or related experience. Previous management of an aquatic facility is preferred. OR An equivalent combination of education or experience
  • Working knowledge of the rules and regulations of various aquatics and recreational activities; the basic principles and practices of recreation and aquatics administration.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to respond to inquiries on time; to handle multiple priorities and demands for programs and facilities; respond courteously and professionally with both internal and external customers; plan, develop, implement, prepare, and effectively present information; work independently and prioritize work assignments; vital organizational, supervisory, planning, programming, and technology skills.
  • American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard certification (or equivalent)
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO)
  • Certified in first aid and CPR.
  • EMT Certified
  • Food Handlers Permit
  • Valid Utah Driver's License
  • Ability to work in and out of an office setting; ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, and wind; willing to work flexible shifts, holidays, and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and Team Management: Lead and supervise a team of aquatics/events staff, providing guidance, support, and training to ensure efficient and safe aquatics facilities and event programming. Responsible for recruiting temporary, seasonal, and full-time staff, which includes interviewing, selecting, and training employees; supervising all aquatics/events staff; assigning tasks; delegating responsibility and following up on assignments; ensuring assignments are completed.
  • Training and Coaching: Must be able to train and coach employees; required to implement operational policies and procedures; monitor record keeping; review and submit timecards; responsible for annual performance reviews; handle employee complaints and grievances; and recommend disciplinary actions following County policy.
  • Manages swimming pool facility operations: Manages pool facilities in compliance with state and federal operations and safety guidelines; assures proper personnel training for pool operations; monitors pool facility safety practices; monitors pool water quality and chemical balances through sampling and testing; assures the overall quality of pool maintenance. Leads out in yearly opening and closing maintenance for all pool facilities. Routinely backwashes pools and reports and assists in any maintenance issues with pool or aquatics facilities equipment.
  • Safety Compliance: Recommends and implements pool facility policies and procedures related to patron use, fees, safety, etc.; implements pool management control plans to minimize risk and liability; monitors compliance. Conduct regular aquatic facility and event assessments to identify areas needing repair, improvement, or enhancement and develop plans for addressing those issues.
  • Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies and incidents within the aquatic facilities, event venues, and throughout The Peak Complex and County as needed. Perform skilled emergency response techniques according to required training.
  • Aquatics and Events Programming: Plans, develops, and implements event programs and services and swimming facility programs; creates schedules for event programs and swimming instruction for all age groups; develops services and programs to assist community groups, schools, youth programs, etc. Prepares and presents written and oral information regarding pool services and Rentals to supervisors/managers, Renters, and community groups. Schedules leagues, programs, and events. Assists in managing the annual and seasonal calendar to ensure timelines of program starting dates and conclusions. Works with Communication and Marketing Manager to ensure timely delivery of public notices and announcements as needed to afford target populations opportunities for participation. Supports and helps organize other recreation programs and county events as needed.
  • Budget Analysis and Reporting: Assists in preparing annual budget recommendations related to general pool facility maintenance, personnel needs, and other recreational programs; monitors pool and recreation expenditures to assure conformance to established fiscal program.
  • Resource Management : Maintains proper inventory of pool office and operation supplies (e.g., first aid, water quality control, custodial equipment, etc.), as well as supplies for other recreational programs and facilities.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintains the record of all income and expenditures; monitors proper handling of cash receipts; records work hours; submits time sheets; develops and prepares reports as needed to apprise county management of facility status and accomplishments; manages daily revenues and prepares deposits for swimming pool operations as well as other event programming.
  • Customer Service: Provides effective customer service courteously and helpfully. Handles complaints from coaches, participants, and organizations and negotiates to achieve solutions that better the department. Perform other related duties as required.
