About The Position

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Lead will assist in the management and supervision of the general operation of the aquatics facility, by providing excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA Policies and procedures. Provides direct leadership, instruction, training, and motivation for staff. Assists with the day-to-day operations of the pool. Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to relate effectively to diverse groups of people and have thorough knowledge and application of swimming, water safety and rescue skills and be able to perform those skills.
  • Must have current or be able to obtain appropriate certifications to perform duties of the position, CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard Certification.
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner and possess strong organization and management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the aquatics field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to staff and assists in recruiting, training, developing, scheduling, hiring, and coordinating.
  • Assume regular lifeguard duties.
  • Work with Director on agendas for all lifeguard in-service training and ensure staff is current on training needs and development.
  • Know, understand, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatics area.
  • Assists with pool maintenance, including but not limited to cleaning and draining the pool, proper water chemistry, backwashing, filtration, and supplies.
  • Builds effective relationship with members and helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Remain calm in challenging situations and make good sound judgments, establish goals, strive for excellence, build rapport and relate well to others.
  • React quickly and calmly in emergencies and know emergency procedures.
  • Alert Director of any problems as they occur.
  • Apply lifeguarding techniques and render first aid when needed.
  • Direct the correction of improper lifeguard practices and behaviors.
  • Perform equipment checks as needed.
  • Attend all aquatic staff meetings.
  • Assist in coordination of aquatics special events and activities.
  • Ensure all checklists, reports, and paperwork are available and up to date.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility and demonstrating professional conduct at all times.
  • Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
  • All other duties as requested.
