The Lakeland Hills Family YMCA is seeking a passionate, mission-driven Aquatics Director to lead and grow our aquatics programs while creating a safe, welcoming, and high-quality aquatic environment for all. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced aquatics professional who believes in the power of water safety, youth development, and community connection—and who leads with integrity, collaboration, and heart. As the Aquatics Director, you will provide both strategic vision and hands-on leadership for all aquatics programs and operations.   • Provide oversight and direction for all aquatics programs, ensuring they meet community needs and YMCA standards.
  • Develop, enhance, and expand aquatics offerings to promote swim safety, wellness, and lifelong healthy habits.
  • Oversee daily pool operations, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate high school swim meets, including scheduling, staffing, logistics, and on-site operations.
  • Maintain accurate records related to pool chemistry, inspections, and facility readiness.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and retain a diverse and inclusive team of aquatics staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing coverage to maintain safe and uninterrupted pool operations.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and leadership development aligned with YMCA values.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and administer wage adjustments in accordance with YMCA salary plans.
  • Ensure all staff certifications and trainings are current and properly documented.
  • Create a welcoming, child-friendly aquatic environment that prioritizes safety, confidence, and fun.
  • Address member questions and concerns with professionalism, care, and timely follow-up.
  • Partner with the marketing team to promote programs and increase participation.
  • Collaborate with the Aquatics Committee to set department goals and strategic priorities.
  • Develop and manage the aquatics department budget to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Oversee departmental payroll, timekeeping, and program registration processes.
  • Administer Jackrabbit software, including scheduling, enrollment, billing coordination, and reporting.
  • Analyze participation data and program metrics to guide decisions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead by example in risk management, emergency response, and participant safety.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of YMCA policies, procedures, and training standards.
  • Actively participate in YMCA events, volunteer initiatives, and community engagement efforts.
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and leadership forums.
  • Support additional projects and initiatives as assigned by senior leadership.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Completion of required YMCA aquatics training and trainer certifications.
  • Within 30 days of hire: completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and awareness to supervise aquatic activities and respond to emergencies.
  • Ability to hear and respond to distress signals in a pool environment.
  • Regular use of a computer and mobile devices.
  • Ability to move throughout aquatic and office environments.
  • Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • One to two years of related experience preferred (e.g., Aquatics Coordinator or Supervisor).
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred or willingness to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
