Aquatics Director, Rankin YMCA

About The Position

Responsible for program development, staff hiring and supervision training, budget control, operational management and facility scheduling in the aquatics department in accordance with the philosophy of the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City. Additionally, the incumbent will model the core values of the YMCA: Honesty, respect, responsibility and caring. This position will oversee the aquatics operations at the Rankin YMCA through Fall 2026 and will help open the exciting new Kupiec East Edmond YMCA. In addition, they will have responsibilities supporting all aquatics programs in conjunction with the District Aquatics Director. Starting salary is $40,314 per year

Requirements

Must be PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid certified. (Training provided by the Y, if needed)
Must be 21 years of age or older with at least two years' experience in supervising and scheduling staff.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the sports management, physical education or a related field.
May have degree in another field with at least three years' experience working in a recreational or sports setting.
Current certifications in aquatics are required, YMCA certifications are preferred.
Trainer level certifications will be acquired within two years of employment.

Responsibilities

Must stay current in CPRPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually.
Must possess a cooperative spirit committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect and responsibility to staff, lay leaders, YMCA members, program participants and the general public.
Ability to relate to professional staff, departmental staff, members and program participants.
The aquatic department will strive to meet all YMCA of the USA aquatic guidelines.
Guidelines and policies adopted by the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City will be enforced.
Will train staff in all aspects of safety in and around an aquatic facility.
Must certify and train staff to meet the needs of the department.
Will use administrative skills related to program, personnel, fiscal management and quality control.
Daily operation of the aquatic department will be the responsibility of this position, including but not only, chemical balance of the water, maintenance of equipment, substitute staffing, coaching of staff.
Duties outside the aquatic department may be assigned.
Able to move to various locations, including in and around the swimming pool. Travel to various sites and locations.
Able to sit and stand for extended lengths of time.
Ability to lift 50 pounds without strain.
Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all participants.
Physical ability to use both legs and arms to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200-pound person.
Physically able to see, hear and project the voice across distances.
Ability to handle irate, complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing comments made.
Remain physically able to demonstrate skills.
Will hire, train and supervise aquatic staff.
Creation of work schedules, pool schedules, training events and instructional classes will be done as needed.
Daily, weekly and monthly chemical checks will be completed.
Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance will be completed to ensure uninterrupted use of the aquatic facility.
Will market the programs to the members and public.
Facilitate trainings; attend Team Meetings and Association Meeting when scheduled.
Reports and budgets will be completed.
Fiscal management and budget control will be maintained.
Understands the policies of the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City and implements them.
Accepts additional duties assigned.
Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors and volunteers.
