About The Position

The Aquatics Director is responsible for the comprehensive planning, development, fiscal management, and administration of the YMCA swim program. This role includes the supervision of the indoor pool and encompasses hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating program staff. The Aquatics Director ensures that national quality standards are met or exceeded across all program areas, directly supervising lifeguards and lifeguard trainers. The position requires oversight of pool schedules, planning and implementing aquatic emergency drills, and collaborating with Association Branch staff on teen and community programs. In addition to these responsibilities, the Aquatics Director is tasked with developing written goals and objectives annually that align with branch results in program and membership areas. Attendance at relevant meetings and training sessions is essential. The role involves hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating all staff under direct supervision in a consistent and timely manner, maintaining a complete and current staff schedule, and conducting interviews for new hires. Regular observation of swim instructors and team staff is necessary to ensure program quality, along with effective communication with instructors and team staff in a caring and professional manner. The Aquatics Director is also responsible for time sheet checks and verification of hours worked by staff, maintaining a current working knowledge of programs, instructing lessons as needed, and lifeguarding when required. Communication with members and parents regarding concerns, changes, credits, or transfers is a key aspect of the role. The position includes developing new programs that reflect community needs, conducting regular inspections of equipment, and following up with maintenance for necessary repairs. Timely monitoring of phone calls and emails is expected, along with planning the yearly budget and monitoring monthly reports. The Aquatics Director provides supervisors with the necessary information to prepare annual reports and must adhere to all YMCA safety policies and procedures. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor, and the Aquatics Director is expected to exemplify the YMCA character development principles at all times.
