About The Position

The Aquatics Coordinator at the YMCA of Southwest Florida is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Aquatics Department, ensuring the safety of all participants in and around the pool, and providing leadership to lifeguards and swim instructors. This role involves training, scheduling, and evaluating staff, as well as developing new programs and activities to enhance community engagement.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • 2 years of relevant experience required.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current lifeguarding certification from YMCA, Redcross, StarGuard, or other recognized organizations.
  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check.
  • Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
  • YUSA Lifeguard Certification required within 30 days of employment.
  • YUSA Aquatics Trainer/Instructor certification required within 120 days of employment.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing and implementing in-service trainings for lifeguard staff.
  • Recruit, train, develop, schedule, and direct Aquatics staff as needed.
  • Review and evaluate staff performance.
  • Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Establish new program activities and expand programs within the community.
  • Review timesheets and manage payroll for the aquatics department.
  • Monitor aquatic operations to adhere to health and safety regulations.
  • Serve as the point person for risk management for the Aquatics Department.
  • Compile program statistics and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Coordinate use of programming for activities and events.
  • Develop and distribute program calendar and newsletter.
  • Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Attend all Aquatics Cabinet meetings.
  • Maintain constant supervision of the pool during assigned shifts.
  • Test water and manage pool maintenance concerns.
  • Ensure all equipment is stored correctly after shifts.
