About The Position

Under the direction of the Program Director of Aquatics, the Aquatic Coordinator supports the coordination, supervision, and delivery of aquatics programs across all YMCA of Superior California branches. This position assists in the supervision, training, and support of swim instructors and lifeguard staff and must be accessible and available for emergency coverage as needed. The Aquatic Coordinator helps ensure a safe, disciplined, welcoming, and professional environment in alignment with YMCA policies and aquatics standards. The role provides system-wide oversight of swim lesson programming, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSLI) courses, and aquatics-related programs across all branches, supporting consistency and quality in program delivery. In addition, the Aquatic Coordinator oversees aquatics program payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing. The position plays a key role in internal communications related to aquatics programs, staffing, scheduling, and operational needs, collaborating closely with branch leadership and aquatics staff to support effective and mission-driven programming throughout the association. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Three years’ prior experience in aquatics teaching children and adults.
  • Two years’ prior experience in supervision.
  • Current CPR, AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Current Lifeguard certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Current Certified Pool Operator or YMCA Pool Operator on Location certification required within90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support aquatic staff, including swim instructors, across all YMCA of Superior California branches.
  • Review, approve, and submit aquatics staff timesheets, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Oversee the implementation and consistency of aquatics programs, activities, and schedules system-wide.
  • Lead and support swim lesson programming, including instruction as needed.
  • Coordinate and support YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSLI) courses and instructor development.
  • Address parent, participant, and member concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure Aquatic Safety, Risk Management, and Emergency Action Plans are implemented and followed.
  • Maintain knowledge of all safety, emergency, and rescue procedures and ensure staff readiness.
  • Ensure daily pool operations, including cleanliness of pool and deck areas.
  • Monitor daily pool chemical levels and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Oversee the safety of pool activities and mechanical systems, including evening and weekend coverage as required.
  • Communicate effectively with the Aquatic Program Director, branch leadership, and internal teams regarding staffing, scheduling, payroll, and programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatic Program Director or supervisor.
