The hiring range for this position is $25.30/hour - $28.00/hour, based on experience. Location and Schedule In this position, you can expect to work a full-time schedule on-site at an assigned recreation center. This is a full-time position with a schedule that may include mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on operational hours and business needs. We are currently seeking applicants for vacancies at the following locations listed below: Swansea Recreation Center (2650 E 49th Ave, Denver), scheduled to open later this year, this is an exciting new indoor natatorium. Montbello Recreation Center (15555 E 53rd Ave., Denver), or Carla Madison Recreation Center (2401 E. Colfax Ave., Denver) Location preferences at the time of application will be considered, but not guaranteed. This position may be assigned to any Department of Parks and Recreation-operated facility as required by organization needs now and anytime in the future. What You’ll Do #SeeYourself: Making an impact in your community through inclusive aquatic programming, championing safe pool spaces, and shaping the future of aquatic experiences in Denver. With a staff of over 450 lifeguards across 16 indoor and 16 outdoor swimming pools, it takes a team of dedicated, diverse, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic professionals to ensure the highest-quality aquatic programs, safety, and customer service are being delivered to communities across Denver. The City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is currently seeking an adept and accomplished recreation professional to join this team as an Aquatics Coordinator. In this position, you will create, coordinate, and plan a variety of aquatic programs, classes, and activities while managing the day-to-day operations of a municipal indoor pool. This is a great opportunity to work for a large and diverse aquatics program while promoting new and exciting aquatic opportunities to the surrounding community. Core objectives of this position include partnering with other Aquatic Coordinators to deliver swimming lessons, water fitness classes, and lifeguard in-services. Your work will include modeling behaviors and requirements for lifeguards. In this position, you can expect to be lifeguard rotation, teaching swimming lessons, or instructing aqua fitness classes, as needed. Finally, your work will support the overall recreation center team and recreation operations for the center you are assigned to.

Requirements

• We are looking for a dedicated and passionate aquatics professional who can function effectively on a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Our ideal candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills with an eye for innovation, efficiency, and safety.
• Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
• Three (3) years of work experience instructing in an organized aquatic program involving the monitoring of pool equipment, pool chemicals and pool operations.
• Requires a Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR and AED Certifications for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid Certification at the time of application.
• Requires a Lifeguard Instructor Certification, First Aid Instructor Certification, and a Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification prior to completion of the probationary period.
• Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment.

• Experience delivering American Red Cross learning materials and classes
• Experience performing lead work/supervisory duties over aquatics staff
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification, preferred at time of application
• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications, preferred at time of application

Responsibilities

• Create, implement, and lead Aquatics programs, including swimming lessons and special events
• Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and coaching of part time staff members including Lifeguards and Swim Lesson Instructors
• Oversee staff scheduling for Aquatics part time staff at your facility
• Evaluate the success of programs and provide feedback to the Aquatics Core Team
• Conduct regular staff training on emergency procedures
• Deliver equitable, professional, and prompt customer service to community members and facility users
• Create and foster partnerships with community leaders, neighborhood organizations, local schools, and other community partners to design programs that fit their unique needs and promote employment opportunities
• Attend regular team meetings and collaborate with other Aquatics Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, and other city agencies
• Attend community events and serve as a Denver Parks and Recreation ambassador to the community
• Perform basic regular maintenance and repair of pool equipment in partnership with Pool Maintenance Technicians
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
