As a YMCA Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of all pool patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. You will maintain a safe and clean aquatic environment and provide exceptional service to all members and guests ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Maintains active surveillance of the pool area. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model. Completes related reports as required. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Checks the pool, and Lake for hazardous conditions when arriving. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action. Attends all staff meetings and in-service training. Performs other duties as assigned. YMCA COMPETENCIES (Leader): Values - Accepts and demonstrates the Y’s values. Certifications: YMCA Lifeguard, ASHI Basic Life Support (ASHI CPR Pro), Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen, Waterfront, and Water Park. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
