About The Position

The Aquatic Resources Education Center, operated by the Division of Fish and Wildlife, focuses on wetlands, fishing, and other aquatic education themes. This position presents wetland environmental education material to fifth grade students at the Aquatic Resources Education Center, presents youth fishing programs, sets up equipment at start of programs and cleans and puts away equipment at end of programs. This position assists in developing and maintaining program materials, displays, equipment and other educational resources, and performs other tasks related to the preparation and presentation of field trip and fishing programs. Job duties include assisting with the care and maintenance of aquariums and live aquatic species. Work is performed outdoors under various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children and young adults such as academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant or education teacher.
  • Six months experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, Excel or Publisher.
  • Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  • Knowledge of Aquatic or Environmental Science.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

  • Provides educational material and technical information to groups and students.
  • Provides educational material about fishing techniques, safety and equipment.
  • Maintains program equipment and materials.
  • Provides general customer service and information to visitors.
  • Assists with special events and outreach programs.
  • May assist with drafting social media posts.
  • May assist in overseeing the work of volunteers.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor setting with large amount of walking.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability, professionalism and good communication skills, and interact as a team member with other staff and volunteers.
  • Maintains a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.
