In this role, you’ll perform aquatic and vegetation maintenance within stormwater conveyance systems and roadway rights-of-way. If you’re ready to make a difference in your community, apply today! About This Role Perform maintenance on county open stormwater conveyance systems and their appurtenances Restore road right-of-ways and properties relating to stormwater maintenance and repairs Operate specialized equipment, such as harvesters, ATV’s, boats, spray rigs and other related equipment required to maintain and repair stormwater conveyance and road right-of-way maintenance/construction Respond to customer complaints relating to stormwater systems, including pipeline, canal, ditch blockages, and erosion control. Issues on and around the road right of way, water quality concerns, and stormwater flow concerns Will be needed to perform functions applying herbicides to aquatic and terrestrial weedy plants in County canals, lakes, ponds, ditches, road right-of-ways, and properties; various forms of manually operated equipment may also be employed to complete job tasks required for the position May require physically entering aquatic sites when necessary Complete and submit work orders relating to all work performed in a professional and timely fashion Work Hours: Tuesday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • Skilled Trades Worker I: Starting Pay: $20.10 (Step 1), Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience. A High School Diploma or its equivalent Two (2) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of stormwater conveyance systems Must be able to acquire a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement within six (6) months from the date of hire (Paid for by the county!) Must be able to obtain a Right-of-Way and Aquatic Applicator license within one (1) year from the date of hire (Paid for by the county!) A valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire
  • Skilled Trades Worker II: Starting Pay: $22.14 (Step 1), Potential higher pay (steps) for those with multiple years of experience. A High School Diploma or its equivalent Three (3) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of stormwater conveyance systems Must be able to acquire a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement at the time of hire Must have a right-of-way, aquatic, and natural areas applicator license at the time of hire A valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
  • Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in operating equipment used for the maintenance and repair of water conveyance systems
  • Knowledge of current technology in storm water distribution systems and road right of way maintenance practices
