About the position
The Downtown Aquarium Denver is seeking an Aquarium Biologist to provide proper care for a diverse collection of aquatic and terrestrial animals. This role involves maintaining enclosures, ensuring water quality, and assisting with veterinary treatments. The position also includes public engagement through demonstrations and interpretive programs, requiring a flexible and guest-oriented attitude.
Responsibilities
- Care for the animal collection including enclosure maintenance and water quality management.
- Maintain life support equipment and appropriate feeding regimes.
- Recognize and treat diseases in the animal collection.
- Administer quarantine prophylactic treatments and assist the veterinary team with fish treatments.
- Maintain support areas and ensure all records are up to date and complete.
- Assist with exhibit diving duties and public demonstrations.
- Participate in the development and delivery of interpretive programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology, Biology, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience with recommendations.
- Knowledge of aquarium systems and aquatic biology.
- Prior experience working in a zoo or aquarium setting.
- Valid SCUBA certification and diving experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Ability to pass a background check and AAUS swim test.
