About The Position

Riverence consists of facilities located primarily in the Magic Valley of ID that range from 14 different fish farms, a research and development facility, a processing plant, and 4 brood facilities that are located in WA and rural ID. The Aquaculture Technician in Training will demonstrate a passion for fish husbandry, a good work ethic, attention to detail and will perform a variety of aquaculture husbandry duties to include daily farm chores including feeding, mortality removal, and screen scrubbing.

Nice To Haves

  • High school Education or GED preferred
  • Aquaculture experience preferred.
  • Aquaculture or related degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a passion for fish husbandry, a good work ethic, and attention to detail.
  • Perform a variety of aquaculture husbandry duties including daily farm chores, feeding, mortality removal, and screen scrubbing.
  • Maintain knowledge of the facility including sections, pond numbers, and rearing areas.
  • Understand and follow the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Be dependable, trustworthy, and consistent in the role on the farm.
  • Understand the general feed schedule and farm workflow.
  • Know the locations of offline settling ponds, sumps, influent valves, and head ditches.
  • Possess knowledge about fish barriers and their uses including tail screens, jump board, graders, and screens.
  • Be knowledgeable about facility equipment.
  • Be aware of potential farm hazards.
  • Be aware of significant manure build-up, wasted feed, and broken tail screens.
  • Be aware of technician’s activities and the meaning and significance of withdrawal tags on the ponds.
  • Know SDS locations and their use.
  • Perform and practice biosecurity procedures around the farm, including hatch-house, outdoor, and disinfections.
  • Count and pick mortality.
  • Handle fish and select proper grading techniques.
  • Perform truck maintenance and ensure truck cleanliness.
  • Clean screens.
  • Ensure care of vehicles, equipment, and farm safety.
  • Maintain basic pond hygiene, including awareness and cleaning of debris on head ditch grates and first use ponds water entry points.
  • Operate and maintain vacuum/pumping equipment.
  • Remove and record mortalities.
  • Monitor fish behavior and bring any abnormalities to supervisor’s attention.
  • Assist with fish transfers.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and systems, including sweeping raceways, cleaning, and repairing graders and equipment on farms.
  • Complete all tasks based on required safety guidelines.
  • Participate in all safety training.
  • Be willing to perform any task on the farm, regardless of specific job, skill, or seniority.
  • Maintain appropriate housekeeping and sanitation procedures on the farm, ensuring proper protocol and required biosecurity measures are followed.
  • Provide prompt, friendly, and courteous service to internal and external customers.
  • Help out with other areas on the farm when needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
